Naval Quarter

The Naval Quarter
The Trident
The favourite haunt of the seafaring folk of this district, the Trident tavern serves some of the best- and strongest- booze in the city. The atmosphere is boisterous and punch-ups are a regular occurrence.

Sometimes there's even live music... If sea shanties are your thing. The only food they serve here is lobscouse, a European sailor's stew, made with whatever meat is currently available (usually beef or lamb) and whatever root vegetables they have lying around.

Overnight lodging is available upstairs although a good night's sleep seems unlikely given the noise downstairs.
The Brig
The first rule of The Brig is: you do not talk about The Brig. And you will find that the locals don't as it's usually frequented by those they would describe as "pirate types".

The obligatory "Fight Club" venue for those wanting to blow off steam in a way that doesn't involve a visit to the Pleasure Quarter... The building itself is little more than an abandoned warehouse once used for storing liquor imports. There is a fighting ring and fights are organised on at least a weekly basis, often accompanied by some gambling on the predicted outcomes.

Characters are welcome to commandeer this space to organise their own fighting events or even if they just want somewhere to train.
The Oyster Room
Want to know something? They really liked oysters in the regency era. Like, really liked oysters. Eating establishments that specialised in them were everywhere.

The Oyster Room is Andovale's version and the place to go for oysters fresh out of the water and served in a variety of ways - half shelled, raw, smoked, boiled, baked, fried, roasted, stewed, canned, pickled, steamed, broiled (grilled) or used in a variety of drinks. Demand is so high among the locals that the place is always busy.

You know what they say about oysters, don't you? Well, maybe the famed aphrodisiac effect of these oysters have been amplified a little... just a little.

Other seafood is also served here (cod's head and shoulders anyone?) and you can also get a decent drink if you don't fancy the rougher atmosphere of the Trident.
The Blacksmith
If you want a weapon done right, this is where you go to see it done. Lady Barely is the best in the business, and she takes her job with pride.

Once she starts on a weapon, she sees it through to the end. Greatswords, longswords, two-handers, axes, knives, they all come forged by her hand.

She comes at a pretty penny, but you can be assured her work is solid. It took a lot for her to get here, so she doesn't take kindly to people wasting her time — you either have the Thumos or you don't. Simple as that. For the ladies, however, she's more inclined to offer a bargain.

Those in search of something of a lower, simpler grade might be better off asking after the town armory.
The Stables
A place where you may acquire and keep a horse of seemingly any breed or colour. By horseback is the only way to travel on land after all.

Why a stables in the Naval Quarter you ask? It seems that Pheme may have taken inspiration from Poseidon as god of both the sea and of horses. Placing the two beside each other seemed like the natural thing to do.

Coastal Path
A favourite spot for a stroll and the most convenient route if you want to visit the beach. The locals will advise you to avoid the walk at certain times though when strange pink flowers appear alongside the path. They don't elaborate further but the alluring scent and pollen of these blooms is said to produce a rather amorous effect upon anyone in the vicinity - to speak more of such things would be far too scandalous.

There are various caves hidden along the route though. In case you want somewhere private. Just saying.
The Beach
Does this one really need to be explained?
Probably not. But very occasionally this beach has been known to have some curious objects wash up on it. Previous finds by some very confused locals include a cell phone, a cowboy hat and what appears to be some kind of broken hoverboard. Did you think this was Pheme's first world building attempt?
Housing
Characters choosing to live in the Naval Quarter have a choice from the following types of homes:
Townhouse
As with other areas of the city, the classic terraced Regency style townhouse is also available here. They're smaller, a little more weather beaten and rough around the edges than the townhouses in other parts of the city but are usually painted in more quirky colours.

They house up to 6 people and come with a small garden at the back of the property.

Coastal Cottage
For those wanting to be a little further away from the main hustle and bustle but still within a convenient enough distance from the docks, cottages are also an option.

They house up to 4 people and come with their own small plot of land.

Cost: ৳ ৳
Sea Fort
For those wanting more of a quirky, fixer upper option, the abandoned defensive sea forts found on the cliff tops may prove attractive. Someone has seen to it that they at least keep the rain out but there are few luxuries here. Just see it as an opportunity to make somewhere truly your own! The spectacular views and nature right on your doorstep may more than make up for their sparse interior.

All come with enough land around them to extend and build upon the existing structure if you have the skillset.

They vary in size - some are suitable for only 2 people, others up to 8.

Cost: ৳ ৳ ৳
House Boat/Ship
Some people don't like being tied to one place for long and for those individuals there is the house boat/ship option. They are moored in the harbour of the Naval Quarter by default but you can choose to leave them anywhere along the coastline of this Quarter - even anchor them a little way out to sea if you choose, just bear in mind the restriction of being sent right back to port if you stray too far out.

The vessels can take whatever form you choose as long as they are regency/Georgian period appropriate.

On average, a small-sized vessel can house 2. A large vessel can hold 8. Price depends on the size and shape of the ship.

Cost: ৳ ৳ / ৳ ৳ ৳ / ৳ ৳ ৳ ৳
