Reputation Rewards
Overview
Within high society, Reputation is everything! How others come to see you is more important than how you actually are. You may be a total slob behind closed doors, but if others see you as charming, then that's what you are! Yes, the court of public opinion is the highest court of all, so it's no surprise that Reputation carries quite a weight in Andovale...
Reputation is how in-game rewards and punishments are meted out.
Those who align themselves with Lady Pheme's vision will find gifts place upon there door. They'll find treats, and potions, and pets, and items from home whisked back into their lives. Meanwhile, those who actively work against the spirit of Andovale may find spiders in all of their favorite shoes, or they maybe tossed into the jungle, or they may find they have a raincloud above their head for the rest of their days! Lady Pheme is quite a fickle woman, and her punishments run the gamut from mundane to torturous [if you're not one for rain].
All arrivals come into the the world with 0 points. By living the life of a proper high-society citizen, characters will increase their Reputation, adding to their Reward Points. When characters act recklessly, their Reputation will decrease, adding to their Punishment Demerits.
To be clear: only blatant, public misbehavior warrants Demerits. Having a delicate evening together in the privacy of one's own home does not earn Demerits and it does not earn Points. Only activities that actively benefit the ton will be rewarded, and only actions that actively harm the ton will be punished.
To help keep track of a character's Reputation, we offer a Calling Card + Thread Tracker combination code.

Points
In order for this new system to work, we need to give you a metric for how points are earned how many points certain 'infractions' are worth. This is a brief overview, not an exhaustive list:
Being sneaky and discrete is the point here. Events will come along to try and set your character up for failure. That's part of the fun! Plus, things not covered here are still fair game! If you'd like to know how much a thing like 'drunken brawling' might be worth, you can ask down below.

Rewards
When purchasing Rewards and/or Punishments, we ask that you limit things to four purchases per month.
| Reputation Rewards | Description | Cost |
|---|---|---|
Ambrosia |
The favoured beverage of the gods themselves, it is said to grant immortality.
This watered down version won't but it will instantly heal any wounds or physical ailments, as well as provide the consumer with an instant hit of intense energy and optionally, sexual appetite. The effects last for 5 hours. |
10 pts. |
Potion of Proteus |
Drinking an entire bottle of this will temporarily change the consumer's appearance in any way they choose. It can be just a few physical attributes or their entire appearance.
Effects last for 12 hours. |
10 pts. |
Zeus' Beard Hair |
Why would anyone even want this you ask? A very good question. Might be one reward that the butler just discretely drops off.
During feelings of intense excitement, whether that be plain old wholesome excite or sexual, this little talisman will cause you to change into either a bull, a swan or an eagle. Why? Well, just have a quick read of some of the mythology about Zeus. This effect lasts from 1-5 hours and once activated the bristly talisman of beard hair will vanish. |
10 pts. |
Extract of Satyrion Flower |
You won't find this particular concoction at the Apothecary and there is a very good reason for that. This is basically Andovalian Viagra combined with the most potent aphrodisiac properties. Need we say more?
Available in either powder or liquid form in a small, discrete vial, there is enough for two doses - enough for a night of passion with your chosen partner if that is what you're after. The label is delightfully vague, not entirely accurate and simply reads: "Instantly increase your strength and vibrancy". Please pay a visit to Dr. Vile if the effects last for more than 8 hours. |
10 pts. |
Rings of Eros and Psyche |
Named for arguably for one of the most devoted couples in the Greek pantheon, these rings are especially for if you're truly serious about that special someone.
They emit a soft, warm glow when the person wearing the other ring is near and they also link the emotions and physical sensations felt between the two individuals whenever they're intimate with one another. |
15 pts. |
Scent of Aphrodite |
Inspired by the goddess of love, lust and beauty herself, one spray of this perfume will draw the attention and desire of everyone around you. The dominant scent is rose, Aphrodite's symbolic flower.
The effects of one spray will last between 1-8 hours. The perfume can be sprayed up to 6 times times, after which the bottle will mysteriously vanish. |
15 pts. |
Item Regain |
This can be from either your character's own world or from a CRAU one if they were there previously. You must state what the item is in your comments so that we can determine whether it is something that is acceptable for them to receive. | 20 pts. |
Knock-Off Talaria |
They aren't the famed winged sandals of Hermes, only Hephaestus is capable of such masterful craftsmanship, but they're a decent enough replica.
Hermes' sandals were said to allow him to fly like a bird, high in the skies at unbelievable speeds. These will at least let you soar above the rooftops of Andovale - well, more like hover along and enjoy the views. Put it this way, you aren't going to be replacing Hermes as messenger of the gods anytime soon. We probably don't need to say this, but flying above the Palace is strictly off limits. Anyone who tries will find themselves tumbling straight down into one of the wisteria trees. |
20 pts. |
[Through the] Grape Vine |
Courtesy of one great Dionysus, residents of Andovale can now find a vine of grapes set upon their pillow, doorstep, or kitchen counter. Helping oneself to one of these impossibly sweet grapes will result in a near-instant intoxication, so please eat responsibly.
Each bunch holds dozens of grapes. The perfect centerpiece to any party! |
20 pts. |
Aletheia's Antidote |
Antidote to what you ask? Lying.
Got a chum who keeps telling you porky pies? Want someone to confess their true feelings? This potion can help you with that! You had better be quick about extracting the information you want out of them though, because the effect lasts only 1 hour. |
20 pts. |
Noble Steed |
By horseback or horse-drawn carriage is the only way to travel in Andovale. Of course you can hire either for a small amount of Thumos, however this allows you the option to purchase your own mount.
Any breed or colour can be chosen. |
25 pts. |
Furry Companion |
We don't really need to explain this one, do we? Everyone likes a pet option.
As with the horse options, dogs or cats can be any breed or colour. Any breed or colour can be chosen. |
25 pts. |
Business License |
So, you want to open your own business?
How exciting! Working hard and earning profit is one of the great joys in life, isn't it? Running a successful business isn't easy, we're sad to say. It takes time. It takes love. It takes effort. It takes sacrifice. Still not deterred? Well, maybe you're cut out for this after all. Characters must be in-game for at least one month to be eligible to open a business. |
30 pts. |
Punishments
When purchasing Rewards and/or Punishments, we ask that you limit things to four purchases per month.
| Reputation Punishments | Description | Cost |
|---|---|---|
The Lord from Nantucket |
Your character may speak only in rhymes for the day.
Lady Pheme is generous and offers couplets, limericks, or rap for the style of rhyme. |
10 pts. |
The Brewer's Droop |
Someone of a particularly active variety may find that, one day, it's all not working like it should. The Junior won't become a Senior. The port is too dry for a ship to land in. The mast won't hoist. The kitty cat won't meow. If you catch our meaning. |
10 pts. |
Odysseus' Voyage |
For your time causing chaos in Andovale, Lady Pheme has seen to cast both you and a partner into the sea. There will be trials! There will be storms! There may be a stray Kraken that tries to put the moves on you both!
After a day, the two of you will wash ashore in the Naval Quarters. |
15 pts. |
Hera's Heifer |
A person of high society doesn't have to be a cheater for Lady Pheme to turn them into a cow. As a cow, they cannot cause trouble. As a cow, they cannot run amok. All cows know of to do is eat grass and lie.
What a peaceful existence! |
15 pts. |
The Eyes of Cassandra |
Being cursed with this burden means seeing a future that may or may not be accurate. Those who Pheme afflicts with the eyes of Cassandra see a future entirely foreign to them at random intervals. Mods may even offer hints about future events, all of which may or may not be total bull. After a day, the horrid visions of uncertain go away. |
15 pts. |
Persephone's Touch |
Flowers grow and flowers glow. Flowers grow where you step. Flowers grow where you sleep. Flowers sprout from your hair, and your fingers. Everything you touch gets layered over in flowers. Foreign flowers, local flowers, iridescent flowers, small flowers, tall flowers... all that make it super hard to do anything! How are you supposed to eat when your food keeps getting covered in petals?! |
15 pts. |
Id, Ego, Superego |
Sensing that your passions are what's causing you to act out, Lady Pheme removes them. Now, the character in question is only capable of logic devoid of emotion. Everything is thought through as if it were a business transaction, or a math problem, or a puzzle. Emotions don't factor into a thing. For a week or so. |
15 pts. |
Sisyphus' Labor |
Everyone knows this one. For their transgressions against Pheme's 'perfect' world, it would seem that your character isn't suited for high life after all. Cast out of Andovale, your character must, for an eternity, push a large, heavy rock up a hill only for it to roll down again once it reaches its destination. Eternity, six hours, same difference, right? |
20 pts. |
Tantalus' Envy |
Rather than feel an eternity of hunger and thirst, for the next six hours, a character is afflicted with a never-ending appetite. They eat, but they do not get full. They drink, but they still thirst. They couple with another, but their body never seems to exhaust itself. Their appetite for knowledge never ends, and they read every book they can get their hands on... |
20 pts. |
Lost Love |
Ah, now Lady Pheme has solved it. Your problem isn't a problem at all, but a person. Never mind that. Leave it to Lady Pheme to erase all memory of that person, leaving you with a bad case of amnesia only as it applies to the trouble person in your life. For a week, it's like meeting for the first time all over again. |
25 pts. |
Custom Punishment |
Build your own! Mods will chat with the player and see if we can craft a punishment that makes everyone happy. | 30 pts. |
The Hunt |
Chased by an angry animal. It could be a dog, or a tiger, or a bird, or just like a really ticked off mouse. Whatever the creature may be, it's not letting up.
For the next two days, your character must run, duck, and hide from this animal all while maintaining the decorum of the elite lest they rack up even more dings to their Reputation. |
30 pts. |
Stoned |
Among the most brutal of punishments, Lady Pheme may take a page from the book of the greats and simply turn a character into a pillar of stone for the day. While frozen in stone, this character is able to see and sense all that surrounds them but is unable to engage with the world at large.
Let's hope they don't have to use the restroom... |
30 pts. |
Monster Mayhem |
For your beastly ways, Lady Pheme has seen fit to turn you into, well, a beast! For a week, characters might be transformed into a centaur, a cyclops, a gorgon, a lycanthrope, or some other horrid creature [from Greek myth]!
How terrifying! |

FAQ
How long do points last for? Do they expire?
You can hold on to those points for as long as you want! They don't expire, so you can really rack them up.
Why would I want my character to do fun things if they're just going to be punished for them?
We really want to emphasize that punishments are not coming from the mods. This is not punishment or retaliation from us. Characters are coming into a weird world with weird rules, and occasionally Lady Pheme strikes back at them for not curtseying properly. This is really just meant to be some fun flavor text, so please don't feel like you don't want your character to engage in some whacky hijinks because that might earn Demerits.
Does everything need to be submitted for Reputation?
Not really, no. We're sure everyone has scratched their nose at a formal dinner, or helped a lady with her groceries at the market. Minor things really don't need to be counted unless you REALLY want to rack up some points. Major things, however, should be reported. Brawls, proposals, dancing, PDA...
Any time a character is caught doing something good or bad, it adds to their Reputation. It also helps the mods have a better understanding of what's going on in Andovale.
What about things that aren't on the list of rewards?
We are working to add new things to our rewards list often, but if it's some kind of special case from home, let us know and we'll see how well it fits.
What happens to points once they're spent?
In-universe, a character's reputation never goes away. If a character has 100 Reward Points and then a player spends them all on potions, the character in-game is still seen as being highly regarded in society. [The points are spent, yes, but the Reputation of the character and how they're viewed by NPCs in game isn't affected.]
Does behavior have to be threaded out? Or can it be implied?
We'd like to see threads written out to some extent if they're going to be used for either Points or Demerits.
Can the same thread be used twice?
No. A thread can only be submitted once, and we take the events in the thread as-is. If something occurs later in the thread, we cannot count it. For this reason, if you're planning on using a thread that has lots going on [a ball, and a dance, and handholding, etc], we ask that you wait until the thread is far enough along that you're able to cash in everything at once.
Is Reputation excused during God events? Everyone is acting crazy then!
Generally speaking, no. Members of the ton are usually expected to be pristine and proper in the face of all adversity. However, there may be specific circumstances in which this changes and Reputation is waived for a certain part of an event for example. The mods will always indicate whether this is the case when these situations do occur. You can always expect every event to have at least one aspect that may affect Reputation though and the opportunity to pick up Points or Demerits.
So is it a character's fault if they get hit aphro? Why should they be punished for that?
If a character gets hit with aphro, there no Demerits. If a character gets hit with aphro and then acts on their lowered inhibitions, that could be up for Demerits depending on when, and where, and how, etc.
On the whole, we're acting from the belief that characters have choice and agency over their actions.
More importantly, having Demerits really isn't a big deal. We are begging you not to stress about these. It is meant to be silly, not to deter people from writing things they'd otherwise be interested in writing.

Also, as you know it takes two (or more) to tango. I'm assuming the negotiations will be left up to the thread participants, but in the event that one partner turns in a thread for demerits and the other doesn't, will the one who doesn't turn in the thread be penalized as well? (I'm assuming whatever answer will be the same for credits as well, of course)
For example, "Jake" and "Stephen" give in to their base instincts in the spa and end up (shock, horror) snogging in the steamy water. "Stephen's" player really wants the demerits so they can save up for The Hunt to have Steven be chased by the Snail Assassin. However, "Jake's" player for whatever reason doesn't also turn in the thread for demerits. Would the mods approach "Jake's" player to try and offer a solution, would it be logged against "Jake's" reputation anyway, would it depend on whether this was part of a pattern from "Jake's" player, or are you not planning on looking this closely at threads that get turned in? XD
Also one very minor question that I believe I have the answer to, I just want to make sure: Reputation points have nothing to do with the Thumos-as-currency mechanic, correct? Meaning, being intimate in private is value-neutral and can't be used for Reputation, but it still generates Thumos for the purposes of handwaving daily expenses/non-Reward purchases.
Very excited for the new system! Thanks again! <3

1. Redeeming punishments does not neutralize points. The only way to achieve good standing in society is to actively make the effort (attend balls, dance with partners, engage with the community, attend Lady Pheme's events, etc.)
2. Overall Reputation is decided by combining Reward Points with Demerits. Yes, subtracting the bad from the good is how a total is created. If the number is negative, a character will be regarded as something of a troublemaker. A positive number indicates an upstanding member of society.
3. Actions taken during punishments do not award additional points at this time, but all instances are regarded on a case-by-case basis, so mods/players may feel that more Reward Points should be awarded under a certain set of circumstances. On the whole, however, players should expect the point values as listed to be the rubric.
4. We ask that all eligible threads be turned in for Points and Demerits.
5. In this supposed case with Stephen and Jake, no Demerits would be awarded to either party as their actions have no affect on greater society. Only actions that impact the ton at large are eligible for Reputation. Kissing alone in a spa where no one can see is not a societal issue. However, if Jake's butler were to turn up unannounced and catch them in the act, this would now be worthy of rumor and scandal.
5B. We ask that all threads be turned in, even if the player has no interest in redeeming awards. Threads allow mods to have a better sense of what's going on in The Ton, and they allow for characters to be regarded in-game in accordance to their Reputation.
6. Yes, this is correct. Thumos is generated regardless of Reputation.
no subject
5a: I used the spa as an example because I thought that being a public bath house, it counted as "public" for the purposes of gaining/losing reputation, and I know others had the same confusion. If possible, while you're redoing the locations page, could you include some kind of note in the descriptions to say "Threads here are presumed public unless your characters take pains to hide themselves" or "Threads here are presumed private unless players include being observed/interrupted in the thread itself", for clarity's sake? Some are relatively obvious, like the dining establishments, but for instance spaces like the Library, the Hedge Maze, and the Spa could go either way imo (and those three might have different answers!)
5b: If someone has no interest in claiming rewards, or only wants to claim the "big ticket" threads, would their thread partners turning in threads still fulfill the criteria for mods being able to have a sense of what's going on in the Ton? E.g. Miguel has threads with Henry, Eloise, and Lucille, with totals of +5, +50, and -10 respectively. Miguel's player doesn't want to bother tracking threads that aren't worth at least 15 points either way, maybe because updating lists isn't their strong suit, so they don't link Henry and Lucille, but do link Eloise. Henry and Lucille, however, both turn in those threads with Miguel, so the mods still get to be aware of what happened in them.
Re: QUESTIONS
So,as we stand, everyone is at 30+ and 30-, so a net zero on reputation. Sam cashes in a thread for 15 points
Reputation is now 45+/30-. A net of +15 reputation.
He then buys a 15 point reward.
Is reputation still 45+/30- with a net total of +15
Or
45-15(reward bought)-30 for a net total of 0 reputation
Same with buying a demerit.
30+/30-
Entering a thread for -15 reputation
30+/45- reputation net total -15 reputation
30+/45-15(punishment bought) net zero
I ask because a person could go into the negative just by buying rewards or fully erase their bad reputation by purchasing a ton of punishments.
no subject
Purchases don't affect in-game Reputation. With your example:
This means that even if you were to buy three potions [using up all 45 Points], Sam won't suddenly become vilified by the ton or anything.
We give Points a number OOCly to allow players to buy things. In-game, characters aren't aware of the numerical values assigned to their actions. They'd never know that attending a ball will net them 10 Points β only that attending a ball will look good for them, and increase others' opinion of them.
no subject
Just to clarify, it's the same with demerits?
OOCly, Sam has 30/-45 for a -15 reputation. This would have him seen in the city as a bit of a scoundrel ICly? Could a person who wants to play an absolute heel be able to just tank the heck out of their reputation? Say Sam only wishes to submit threads for negative points for all those sweet sweet gorgon transformations, is this possible?
no subject
Spending Demerits on a Punishment doesn't clean the slate ICly. Sam would need to put some work into getting himself into getting in people's good graces. Balls, courting, dancing, sword fighting, helping out a neighbor... any of these would get him the Points he needs to work free of scoundrel status.
And while it'd be possible, since we ask players to send in most all of their big threads, Sam would have to be actively avoiding things like balls and events in order to keep that negative status in-game. Going to Lady Pheme's tea party is going to raise Sam's Reputation, whether he wants it to or not. Going to Lady Pheme's dinner and causing a ruckus, however... that would make him quite the scoundrel.
So, on an OOC level, Sam's player could have him go to a ball and get caught dirty dancing on the dancefloor (!!!). In this case, he'd still earn the 15+ for attending, he'd also get 35-, which would be enough for a monster transformation. Earning Points/Demerits doesn't necessarily mean spending them, so if a player wants to hold onto all the good Points and only focus on Punishments, that's fine with us!
