Academic Quarter

The Academic Quarter
The Academy
The Academy is home to Andovale's academics - clue's in the name. Or at least the ones that Lady Pheme has created anyway. Supposedly it was once exclusive to these locals but has now been opened up to the general public, particularly the new arrivals she has brought here from other worlds like yourself. You may have valuable knowledge to impart after all.

The Academy is home to the most extensive library in Andovale and you can find volumes here on almost any subject you can think of. Although some of the information contained within them isn't always entirely up to date by most modern standards.

You may take classes here in anything from astronomy and physiology (although don't expect these to be all that up to date or accurate...), to flower arranging and fencing.
They're trying hard to cater to all tastes here.

You may even be able to get a position here teaching a class in something you're knowledgeable in if you so choose.
Bound to Please
So you've been to the Academy's library, it's grand and the selection is impressive... but you've not quite found what it is you're looking for. Well, look no further than Bound to Please. We do love a pun. So does the shop owner apparently: a Miss Rosie Cheeks... is that even her real name? She's buxom, extremely attractive and extremely friendly.

This shop doesn't deal in the dull, dusty and scholarly! Oh no. It's here you'll find the latest and greatest in fiction. Novels of almost any genre can be found here but what this place really specialises in can be found behind a velvet curtain in the very back of the shop. Let's just say it was a toss up between this place being opened here or the Pleasure Quarter.

50 Ways to Sin, The School of Venus, The Wanton Lass, The Erotic Exploits of Lady Pokingham, The Voluptuous Experiences of an Old Maid, The Joys of Coming Together... These are but a sample of the fine works of Andovalian literature available for purchase here. Who knows, you might even find some of it highly informative.
The Gorgon's Head
A delightful little pub frequented by the staff and students of the Academy. It's run by three sisters, all three of whom are always wearing dark glasses which they refuse to remove. They seem to love a dress with a snake motif.

Admittedly the decor is a little odd - from the moment you walk in you'll find yourself surrounded by some eerily realistic looking stone statues. They're dotted all over the establishment and vary from humans to mythological creatures like satyrs and even some animals. All of them are alike though in that they have an expression of pure terror on their faces.

When questioned about their interesting taste in art, the sisters will just tell you that they're really into collecting sculptures.

None of that matters though once you taste the excellent beer though, right? Right.
The Observatory
The stars are a new and exciting frontier! Discoveries about space are being made each and every day! Did you know that Earth is the center of the Universe? That everything revolves us, even the Sun? That Milky Way is nothing more than a collection of Zeus' dandruff and tears?

Okay, so maybe these discoveries aren't entirely accurate, but that's nothing to fret over. Spend enough time here and who knows? You might even get a constellation named after you.
Prometheus Coffeehouse
'When they became popular in England, the coffee houses were dubbed "penny universities". It was said that in a coffee house a man could "pick up more useful knowledge than by applying himself to his books for a whole month". A penny was the price of a proper cup of coffee.' Prometheus is best known for defying Zeus himself by stealing fire and bestowing it upon humanity, therefore gifting them with knowledge.

He seemed an apt namesake for Andovale's most popular regency coffeehouse.

Obviously they do good coffee but people also come here for rousing intellectual discussion and debate. The three storey building has a large function room on the top floor which can be used as a meeting space for various clubs and organisations.
The Jail
Academics debate tirelessly over the nature of guilt and innocence. All the while, you're trapped trapped behind bars with little more than a glass of water and a spongy piece of bread.

Jail isn't nice. Jail isn't comfortable. Jail is full of roaches, and rats, and brawlers, and thieves. It's also full of innocent folk who ended up on the wrong side of the law for some reason or another. Every now and again, a student will stop by your cell to get your side of things in order to debate your innocence, but most students seem more interested in the theatrics of it all than actually making a difference.

Getting bailed out seems the better option.
Housing
The Academic Quarter has the following choices of housing:
Academy Boarding
For those who are truly serious about the pursuit of academia, there is the option to live "in house" at the Academy itself.

The rooms are decent and fairly spacious for one but you will have to share the bathroom facilities and be expected to assist with the day to day running of the establishment. Whether that be actually teaching a subject or conducting your own research or just mopping up the floors after some science experiment has gone wrong. There are plenty enough of those.

All meals are usually taken communally in the grand dining hall.

Each dormitory sleeps 2 to 4 people.

Tiny House
All along the Western front, tiny houses can be seen. Leave it to the academics to find joy in living in little more than a cardboard box... These tiny houses are, well, tiny. A bedroom, a bathroom, and a kitchen all in one! There's something to be said for them. They're compact. They're economic. They're cute... but who wants cute and tiny when lavish and luxurious is just around corner?

Hello! Bigger is better! How would one even expect to fit their wardrobe in a place this small?

Each tiny home is a tight fit for 2 people.
