Welcome
"The Twelve Olympians - known throughout history as being the mightiest of the Greek gods. Each with their own important role to play and duties to perform, presiding over the mortal realm with Zeus as leader of them all.
I am truly embarrassed to say, dearest reader, that I, the Goddess Pheme was jealous. Yes, even a mighty goddess such as I am capable of feeling such a thing.
Tired of merely being the messenger of that boorish king of the gods, I posited a theory: What if I created my own place to rule? My own set of mortals to care for?
Of course I cannot possibly waste my time with a boring lot.
That, dear reader, is where you come in."

Pheme, pronounced FEE-mee (it helps your case if you get her name right), is the Greek Goddess of fame and renown. Her favour brings notability, her wrath, the creation of scandalous rumours. Tired of playing second fiddle to gods whose worthiness of respect are often questionable at best, Pheme decided to create her own realm to rule. A veritable paradise... in her view anyway.
Andovale is the result of Pheme's vision, her passion project. It takes a great deal of power to maintain this new world. In fact it requires Thumos, the energy or life force of this realm, created through emotional and physical intimacy. Pheme found that the residents she conjured herself could not produce Thumos and so she had to turn her attentions elsewhere.
Not only do they not produce Thumos, but the residents she created herself could only provide so much entertainment. Things aren't so exciting around here when you control everyone's every whim and desire after all. No, she needs some more interesting individuals and she's willing to reach across multiple universes, places and times to get them.
Congratulations! She has chosen you. You lucky, lucky thing.
You do not remember falling asleep but you awaken beneath wisteria trees. Perhaps one of the lower hanging floral branches has been tickling your nose during your slumber.
You are not alone in this wisteria glade. Nymphs of the trees laugh and dance about you, clearly amused at the new arrival. As well as these, your new loyal servant is here on Pheme's bidding - meet and greets are beneath the goddess herself, after all. Your servant greets you with a smile that is full of warmth and somehow you find it impossible to resist their summons as they lead you to emerge from amongst the trees.
You find yourself face to face with what bears a curious resemblance to a Regency Era British city (although the weather is pleasant a lot more often). The buildings are grand, beautiful and classical in style and residents are dressed in Empire silhouette gowns or waistcoats, breeches and cravats (they don't appear to be able to see your mysterious guide, they only smile at you). The most imposing structure within sight is The Palace and its grounds, which you are forbidden from entering at present. That is the Lady Pheme's domain your servant explains to you and you are only permitted to enter by her explicit invitation. Otherwise the walls remain impenetrable, whether by magic, strength or even if you just fancy trying to climb over them - you aren't getting in right now.
Your travels through the city with your loyal servant as your guide eventually bring you to your new residence within the outskirts of somewhere called the "Trade Quarter". You are now the resident of a room within one of the many grand town houses which make up the Grand Crescent. The servant will be your own personal butler or maid during your stay here. This is where all new arrivals will be living for the time being you are told. Make yourself at home, because it looks as though you won't be leaving for a while.
Once you have been shown to your room, you are given two things: a network communication device and a letter. The letter reads as follows:

My dearest reader,
Welcome to Andovale.
The delights of our fair city are yours to explore.
I do hope that you make your stay here a most interesting one. I shall be frightfully disappointed if you do not - and we do not want that, do we?
You will hear from me again very soon.
Yours Truly,
Lady Pheme
